The rain begins somewhere between the office and the car park, and there it is — folded into a coat pocket, opening with a quiet mechanical click as soon as your thumb finds the button. The canopy unfurls in eight panels of recycled pongee, soft to the touch, surprisingly substantial overhead. The handle is Japanese oak, sanded to that particular smoothness that only hardwood achieves, warming slightly against the palm.
Closed, it measures 28 centimetres and disappears into a matching sleeve. Open, it spans 93 centimetres of dry, dignified shelter. The ribs are fibreglass, the shaft steel, the automatic mechanism the sort you operate without looking. What was once a water bottle is now a canopy — 190T RPET pongee woven from recycled plastics, packaged without any plastic of its own.
A logo screen-printed onto one panel travels well; the umbrella becomes a small recurring presence in commutes, school runs, the dash from terminal to taxi. The Impact Aware credentials lend it credibility for sustainability-minded brands, while the oak handle reads as considered rather than corporate.
